The moment the elevator doors open on the 9th floor of the new building of Dongdaemun Shopping Complex, the hidden and mysterious Gwangmudae stage, concealed for nearly a century, reveals itself.
The spirit of 'Gwangmudae', once the center of Korea's modern performing arts scene before it was lost in a fire in 1930, has been revived in the same Dongdaemun area after 96 years.
Onggi Concert is a unique two-hour cultural curation journey that flows from the White Room to Black Room, and back again to the White Room.

🕰️ STEP 1: The Door to the Past — The White Room

Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink while exploring an exhibition on the history of Gwangmudae Stage and the artists performing today. A multilingual guidebook is also provided, allowing you to immerse yourself naturally in the performance before it begins.

🎭 STEP 2: The Secret Salon of Joseon — Black Room Salon Performance

Step into the Black Room, where the boundary between the stage and the audience disappears completely. Unlike a traditional Western theater with its quiet and formal atmosphere, this space is inspired by the sarangbang—the intimate salon culture of the Joseon Dynasty—where artists and audiences connect and interact freely. Sip traditional tea, chat comfortably with fellow guests, and cheer on the performers with authentic Korean-style audience responses (cheering) for a truly immersive cultural experience!

· The Pure Power of Natural Acoustics - No Microphones Needed:  Master artists who have dedicated more than 10 years to their craft deliver pure and profound resonance without microphones, offering an experience that sends chills throughout your entire body.

· Your Aesthetic Guide - The Docent:  Throughout the performance, a dedicated docent stays by your side, providing clear, engaging explanations of the hidden meanings behind each song and the cultural context in real time, making Korean traditional performing arts easy to appreciate and enjoy.

After the performance, sit down with the artists and discover the deep, heartfelt behind-the-scenes stories that could never be heard on stage.

📸 STEP 4: Become the Star of K-Culture — Interactive Experience and Photo Time

Even after the performance ends, the special experience continues!

· Play the Sounds of Korea: Pluck the strings of the gayageum yourself and strike the soribuk(drum) to experience and feel the rhythms of Korea firsthand. This is the moment when you become the performer, moving beyond being just an audience member.

· Royal Court Photo Zone: Put on elegant hanbok accessories such as a men’s gat (traditional Korean hat) or a women’s jokduri (traditional ceremonial headpiece), and capture a once-in-a-lifetime photo with the beautiful Seoul cityscape as your backdrop.

· 🎁 Some guests who participate in the on-site interactive experience will receive a surprise commemorative gift to help them cherish the memories of this special night for years to come!

💡 Recommended Tip Just outside the theater, you will find a walking trail along Seoul's historic city walls, carrying over 600 years of history. After the performance, we recommend taking a leisurely stroll there with someone special. (Free walking course)

Seat Information

1. Korean Style - On-floor
A premium floor seating experience where guests sit on comfortable cushions placed closest to the stage, allowing them to feel the artists’ breath and energy in an intimate setting.
Note: International guests who are not familiar with the Korean floor-seating culture may find this seating style somewhat less comfortable.

2. Tiered Seating
Elevated seating arranged in a chair-style layout, offering the perfect view of the entire stage production, choreography, and visual beauty at a glance.

1. Select your preferred option and make a reservation for your desired date.

2. Check the mobile voucher or email voucher.

※ Voucher will be sent after the operator confirms your reservation.

3. After your voucher is verified on the 9th floor, please collect your ticket.

4. Once you have received your ticket, please follow the admission guidance for the performance hall and enjoy the performance.

1. Children who are able to watch and remain attentive throughout the full 60-minute live performance are welcome to participate.

2. In the White Room, photography is freely permitted before and after the performance. In the Black Room, photography is allowed only during the curtain call. At all other times, guests are kindly asked to refrain from taking photos in order to preserve the natural acoustic environment.

3. Two seating options are available. When making a reservation, guests may choose either floor seating (a traditional Korean-style floor seating with knee blankets provided) or tiered seating.

4. Full English docent guidance is provided inside the Black Room theater. The White Room is a self-guided viewing space.

5. Comfortable clothing is recommended. (Especially for guests choosing floor seating.) 

6. Once the performance has begun, cancellations, refunds, and changes are not permitted.

7. Guests are recommended to arrive at least 10 minutes before (3:50 PM) the performance begins.

8. Due to the building and theater structure, wheelchair access may be difficult.

※ Access via Dongdaemun Station (Subway line 1·4) : The venue is located on the 9th floor of the new building (N Building) of Dongdaemun Shopping Complex, about a 5-minute walk from Exit 9 of Dongdaemun Station.

※ As the route passes through the interior of the market building, we recommend watching the 60-second guidance video sent after reservation for easier access.

※ Note : Dongdaemun Shopping Complex, where the venue is located, is known as a hub for traditional Korean fabrics, hanbok, and traditional craft materials, making it an interesting place to explore before or after the performance.
