GWANGDAE is a signature repertoire of the National Jeongdong Theater Arts Troupe that best represents the identity of Korean traditional performance, Yeonhui. 
Set against the historical backdrop of 'Jeongdong' and 'Hyeopyulsa', known as the birthplace of Korea's modern performing arts, the performance allows audiences to experience both the historical significance of the era and the artistic value of traditional performances such as Pansori, Samulnori, Royal Court Dance, and Beona(plate spinning). 

More than just a performance, this work reflects the historical legacy of 'Jeongdong', the starting point of modern Korean performing arts.

This performance invites us to step into the vibrant lives of the gwangdaes, celebrating the beauty and energy of Korea's tradtional performing arts. 

 
[SYNOPSIS]
“The lively stage of the gwangdaes is about to begin.”

While preparing for the performance <2026 Sochundaeyuhui>, a recreation of the 1902 Hyeopyulsa theater production by the National Jeongdong Theater Arts Group and its artistic director, Sunbaek, an unexplained power outage plunges the theater into darkness, sending people fleeing in panic. 
Frustrated by the sudden halt in rehearsal, the atmosphere of the theater to change in a mysterious way. 
The space transforms, and through the cracks of collapsed time and space, 100 years of history and the gwangdaes of the past emerge.
Amidst this unbelievable spectacle, a mysterious child appears before the bewildered Sunbaek...
 

Performance Running Time

About 80 minutes (No intermission)

1. Select the option and reserve a performance on your desired date. 

2. Check mobile voucher or email voucher. 

※ Voucher will be sent after the operator confirms your reservation. 

3. Please arrive on time for your reserved performance and present your voucher at the ticket booth. 

※  This performance uses dry fog to create a low-lying fog effect on the stage. The fog is made from a water-based solution that is harmless to humans and is continuously managed through the theater's ventilation system.

Front-row seats may be affected, as the fog can drift into the audience area, temporarily obscuring vision.

While the dry fog itself is harmless, audiences with sensitive airways or respiratory conditions such as asthma or rhinitis may experience some discomfort. If you are sensitive, we recommend selecting middle or rear seats.

※  This performance is operated in accordance with the「Child Actor Rights Protection Manual」, the physical and emotional safety and rights of child performers are our top priority.

If any situation arises during the performance that could compromise a child actor's safety, the performance will be paused immediately to ensure their safety before resuming. 

This is an unavoidable measure to protect the rights and safety of children and reflects the theater's policy of prioritizing performer safety. 

These operational policies are part of the performance conditions disclosed at the time of booking, and refunds will not be issued for interruptions or pauses caused by these safety measures.

The National Jeongdong Theater is committed to creating a performance environment that respects children and ensures a stage where all performers and audience members cna shine together.

1. Please make sure to read all notices and guidelines carefully before and after making a reservation. 

2. Admission is limited to ages 5 and above (born in 2021 or earlier). Children under the age limit will not be admitted, regardless of ticket possession or guardian accompaniment. 

3. Ticket pickup and on-site purchases are available from 1 hour before the performance. When collecting tickets, please bring your reservation confirmation(reservation number) or a valid ID of the ticket holder. 

4. Lost or damaged tickets cannot be reissued. Please keep your tickets safe.

5. Audience seating begins 30 minutes before the performance.

6. This performance has no intermission. After the performance begins, entry will only be allowed at designated late-entry times depending on the flow of the performance. Late arrivals will be guided to designated late seat only. If these seats are full or the performance is sold out, entry may not be permitted. Changes, cancellations, or refunds due to late arrival will not be accepted.

7. Re-entry is not permitted once you leave the theather during the performance.

8. To ensure a smooth performance, please be seated at least 10 minutes before the show begins.

9. Changes, cancellation, and refund policies may vary depending on the ticketing platform. Please check the relevant policies before making a reservation. 

10. Changes, cancellations, and refunds are not permitted after the ticketing/cancellation deadline or on the day of the performance.

11. Photography, video recording, and audio recording are strictly prohibited during the performance, except for the curtain call, unless prior permission has been granted. 

12. Food and beverages are not allowed inside the theater, except for bottled water. 

13. The cast may change without prior notice due to unforeseen circumstances. 

14. The National Jeongdong Theater features steep seating tiers, providing generally excellent stage visibility compared to many other theaters. However, seats A1~7, B1~8, C1~7 are lower than the stage and do not have elevation differences between rows.

15. The theater has two wheelchair-accessible seats. Audience members using wheelchair or requiring mobility assistance are kindly requested to make reservations through Clip Service (1577-3363).

16. A wheelchair lift is installed outdoors, and its operation may be affected by external factors such as weather conditions or physical impact. Please check the weight capacity in advance when using an electric wheelchair.

    * For electric wheelchairs exceeding 150kg, guests may need to transfer to a manual wheelchair to use the lift. (Two manual wheelchairs are available at the theater. (Two manual wheelchairs are available at the theater.)

17. Parking space at the National Jeongdong Theater is extremely limited. We strongly recommend using public transportation. Ticket cancellations, refunds, or changes due to parking or traffic issues will not be accepted.

18. The City Hall-Gwanghwamun area, where the theater is located, often experiences heavy traffic congestion and public gatherings. Please allow ample travel time when visiting the theater to avoid any inconvenience before the performance.
